Come and See

I am currently studying the book of John.  This book, written by John, Jesus’ close friend and disciple, has begun to open my eyes in a new way to the character and love of Jesus.  It has been an eye opening experience for me, a follower of Jesus for 15 years, to see for the first time the simplicity of God’s request.  COME AND SEE.

In the beginning of John, we watch as hearts are warmed toward Jesus as He begins to call out His disciples who will walk with Him over the next three years.  When the first two turn around to follow Him:

Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”  They said, “Rabbi”(which means Teacher), “where are you staying?”  “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”  (John 1:38-39)

Come and See. Simple. Clear. Welcoming.  Those words would definitely draw me toward Jesus, creating in me a desire to know Him better.  Are you feeling Jesus calling you to come and see what He has to offer you today?

Jesus as a teacher, ready and waiting to help you discover Him on a deeper level than ever before.  I sense Him asking this question most days, especially when I am distracted and feeling a loss of connectedness with Him.  Come and see me daughter, take a moment out of your day to sit with me and learn from me.  Sit at My feet and be refreshed.  Come.

It can be difficult at times to carve out some time to spend with Him in true uninterrupted quiet.  If you are raising children, trying to find even a spare moment to just breathe can often be difficult, let alone carve out some time to go to the Father.  But it is so worth it to take even a few minutes to go and sit with Him.

Jesus is opening the door for us to discover what life can be like when we walk with Him.  When we take those moments to be sheltered under His wings and learn from Him.  If it’s one thing I have learned as a follower of Jesus, it is the importance of carving out those intimate quiet moments because that it when God opens our hearts to His love.

How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.  (Psalm 119:103)

He sees your daily circumstances, He truly sees what you may be struggling with and knows exactly what you need today. He has a special message just for you today.   A word of love and encouragement that will coat your inner being and fuel you in a way nothing else can.  Won’t you open His word and come and see what He has to offer you today!
