Life in the Middle

We are created uniquely by God and He has a purpose for our lives.

I know it might not feel like it some days when we are in the middle of diapers, kids homework, shuttling children, cleaning house, and or going to work everyday, but God has a plan for your life.

In this season, maybe it’s to be a mom, or to work full-time.  Maybe God has you staying at home or ministering to your neighbor or caring for an elderly parent.  Whatever you are smack dab in the middle of in this moment, you are uniquely qualified by God to be there.

What is your middle?  Toddlerhood, motherhood, full-time work, balancing family, work, job and friends?  Maybe you are overwhelmed at the moment and are struggling to see the light at the end of the middle.

Life is overwhelming at times, especially when we are in the middle. We often want to quickly move through it and get to the other side.  But in our rush to get through, we often miss what God has for us as we walk in the middle.  He is walking in the messiness of life with us, giving us an  opportunity to grow spiritually, to be courageous, and to see Him at work.  To lean into His provisions and learn more about who God is and who we are in Him as we travel through our daily living.

In reality, I believe we all spend a large swath of our lives living in the middle. This is where life happens.  In the middle is where God will meet us as we learn to lean into Him at every corner.  And most often, it is in the middle where we experience the hand of God the most, because this is where we need Him most.

How are you experiencing the presence of God in your middle?  Are you reaching for Him each day for support and encouragement?  Are you reading His Words?

God’s life breathed, life-sustaining Word is made for life in the middle.  In fact, we read over and over about the lives of His people lived in the middle.  Turmoil, war, infertility, loss, the list goes on.  Their lives mirror ours, only in a different time. By reading Gods Word, we can find the encouragement of those who have gone before us and how they experienced the faithfulness of God on their journey through the middle.

We see God’s faithfulness to Hagar as He saw her pain and promised her descendants would be too numerous to count(Genesis 16); God’s faithfulness to Ruth and Naomi to provide for them and to be part of the lineage of Christ(Book of Ruth); Gods faithfulness to Esther during her time in Susa(Book of Esther); and countless other examples in the Bible.

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.(Zephaniah 3:17)

God walks with us as we journey through the middle.  He sees the daily grind of our days and yearns for us to turn towards him for the strength to travel through each day with joy, peace and love.  He is in the messiness of life with us, offering His strength, love and encouragement.

Take a deep breath, look at your surroundings, what do you see?

Now breath again and ask God to fill you with His joy to journey through today.  He is faithful and will see you through.

For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)
