Resting in His Hands

What a ride we have been on since late December, it’s hard to believe we are in mid March already.  Though the time has been flying by, it has at times felt like it has been dragging, crawling, at the speed of a turtle, ever so slowly.  I am sure many of you can relate to this feeling.  When we’re in the midst of a struggle, a trial in life, time seems to take the forefront in our thoughts as we wait for answers or for God to move the mountain before us.

I have found that at first as I was waiting for God to move the mountain, to bring answers to my questions, I was continually filled with anxiety and I caught myself fretting over the timing of phone calls and answers from doctors.  The anxiety and fretting began to clog my thoughts just like a drain gets clogged in my home.  Ladies, you know what I mean.  It’s that sink in your bathroom that gets clogged with the “yuck” of our hair and hair products and drains ever so slowly.  We need Drāno to get it un-clogged and to flow more freely.

For me, I have found my Drāno to be the Bible, specifically the book of Psalms. Ok, maybe you’re laughing at this point(laughter is the best medicine), it’s maybe not the best analogy, but it’s all I got at this point. God’s Word is the best handbook for living both in good times and difficult times. His words bring clarity, help us fix our eyes on the only One who can truly understand and help us move beyond living for ourselves on a daily basis.

The book of Psalms is filled with worship.  It is filled with God’s people crying out to God in pain, crying out for the why’s, crying out in love and adoration, recalibrating their recognition of  God over all who is in this life with us.  Reading the words of those who have gone before, has helped me fix my eyes upon the One who uniquely created me.

Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. (Isaiah 64:8)

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.                     (Psalms 139:13-14)

I was reminded this week to simply open my hands to God.  A simple act, but when I physically opened my palms to God, He reminded me that as a follower of Jesus, I have trusted Him with my life.  I know I am His alone.  I was awakend the other night and had this distinct sense that God had something to say to me and this is the impression that God placed on my heart:  “My child, you have trusted me with your life, won’t you trust me with your health?”  This really put things in perspective.  I have placed my trust, rested upon the truth that Jesus is the Messiah, the Savior of the world.  I believe this wholeheartedly.  This in turn means He can be trusted with my health no matter the outcome. Basic, easy to remember, and true.  Thank you God for the timely reminder.

We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.        (Psalms 33:20-22)

So, each day I choose to rest in His capable hands and trust Him to equip us for the ride ahead.  I will worship Him in this storm and look for Him each day, no matter if the day is good or bad.  As a wonderful friend has reminded me, in the days ahead, the ones that are tough and dark, reach out and she will help me to see His mighty hand at work.

My dear friends, what is the state of your heart today?  Are you filled with anxiety or are you resting in the hope of Jesus?  I pray you can open your hands, release whatever is causing you anxiety to Jesus and experience His love today.

Humbly yours,
